Mounting Thread Standards: A Practical Guide

Our resin mounts are available in configurations compatible with multiple screw standards depending on the application. If the screw standard or length does not match, you will not be able to install it, or it may come loose and fall off during use. Screw Standards Used in Our Mounts

Our resin mounts use three standards, all of which are coarse thread screws.

W3/8 (Whitworth Thread)

Mainly used for construction and plumbing applications, such as supporting and securing piping suspended from ceilings.

3/8-16UNC (Unified Thread Standard)

This standard is widely used for attaching accessories like cameras, photography equipment, and tripods.

M10 (Metric Thread)

Used for attaching to common industrial products such as machinery and equipment.

Important: Preventing Problems From Incorrect Standards

Whitworth (W) and Unified (UNC) screws have similar outer diameters and look very similar, but they are separate standards with different thread angles and pitches. Forcibly threading them may appear to temporarily secure the mount, but there is a risk of it easily loosening due to vibration or load, or damaging the screw threads. Always verify the standard, specifications, and dimensions of the screw you are using, and select one that matches.

Effective Thread Engagement Length

The screw holes in the mount have a defined range where the screw can securely fasten (effective thread engagement length). This product has a non-threaded section at the top (approximately 4mm), with threading starting from deeper inside. As a result, if the screw you use is too short, it will not reach the threads inside the resin mount, and you will not be able to secure it properly.

Recommended Screw Length

Screws shorter than 7mm will not reach the threaded portion. Always use screws with a length of 7mm or longer.

*Please also consider the thickness of the component you are attaching when selecting a screw.

*If the screw is too long, adjust it using a washer or similar component.

Storage and Handling Precautions

Since this is made of resin, do not apply excessive force to the screw section or use an impact driver to tighten it abruptly. Additionally, after unboxing, store it away from direct sunlight, high temperatures, and high humidity.
